Well, you also get "Fat" Strats with 'buckers or you can get higher powered single-coil pickups. I also like fat tones and mostly use single-coils. Brian May uses very low powered, thin sounding single-coil pickups, but partly because of the Vox amps he uses and because he wires the pickups in series, he gets some really fat tones.

The IBZs mostly have really thin necks and are basically "Superstrats" geared towards heavier styles of music (not all of them though). Well worth looking at, but the better ones can also be a bit pricy.

Or more seriously, the Ibanez ART or ARX series might be worth looking at if you'd like to maintain that shape, as well as the Ltd's.

Vintage also offers some nice LP and SG copies that could fall into your budget range, and have a pretty decent sound as well.

I am not the biggest fan of LP shape, was always more strat type fan.....

If u keen on the fatter tone, i'd suggest a '72 Telecaster Deluxe reissue, my boet just got one, sounds and feels amazing.. Fender with balls.. U may be lucky to pick one up 2nd hand..

I play a USA std telecaster, really love it, Fenders just have such a good feel, don't let the single coils fool u either, eg, TOM MORRELO plays 1 too... Quite a versatile guitar..

Pick up a few, play a few, take our advice, but not to the point where we choose the guitar for u, it must fit ur hands and ears

To be honest, i never was either, i always wanted a LP, my taste then changed when i played a tele, they don't even look great.. I fell in love, went and got mine a week later..

Has anyone played Ltd's? I hear a lot of good things from them.

A mate of mine just got one, he's in love with it.. won't stop bragging.. I think they worth checking out too..

A bit too heavy for me(sound wise), but it's all about taste..

As long as it is not too heavy in weight....I had a shoulder injury and since I play in a praise and worship band, it is difficult for me to stand for long times with the zakk on my injured shoulder......I can really feel the effect after about 10 minutes.

I found that getting a nice thick leather strap helped with playing for long, less pressure on one specific place

Oh yeah. Common problem - Arjun and I discussed it a while back as he has problems with his back - he plays an Ibanez S-series because it is relatively light. Parker Flys are the ultimate in low weight, but the real ones are pricey.
+1 on the wide strap. There are special straps from Planet Waves too.

So to sum up, you're looking for a lightweight comfortable guitar with a fat sound?

How 'bout this? If I can sell it today or tomorrow, I'll sell it for R4K - there's an amp on special until tomorrow that I'm jonesing for. Otherwise, after that I'm not selling. Stratlike, but even smaller and lighter body. Thin, but not ridiculous neck (21mm at the nut). Pickups are high output noiseless single-coils (which alone sell for R2,800). It's got an extra output jack and a battery compartment not being used this week (I had a piezo system in there and may again if I keep it).
