guidothepimmp Hi there guys.. how does one work out the angle for the neck when fitting a non recessed trem ala old 80s superstrats. i have the strat body with an angled neck pocket already.. roughly 5-8 degrees by my calculations. is this more or less common for non recessed floating trems? done a bit of reading but cannot find specifics. thanks
AlanRatcliffe Hmm... can't remember off hand and a quick look in my reference books doesn't turn up a specific angle either, But I think you'll find it's closer to two or three degrees than 9. ? There was no preset angle with most of the early Floyd equipped guitars like the Charvels - the necks were simply shimmed to suit or the microtilt was used in Fenders with Floyds (some of the Plus models). Before recessing, most had very little pullback (if any), and too much shimming or too steep a neck angle to try and get more results in other problems such as being unable to raise the bridge pickup high enough and springs rubbing against the bottom of the trem cavity. A steep neck angle and the guitar stops feeling less like a Strat too. Any body with an angled pocket and you're already ahead of the game (the trem cavity may already be angled too, which is a bonus), and I'd start by assuming it's roughly right.
AlanRatcliffe aja wrote speaking of microtilt, can it be retrofitted to a guitar? Yes - if you can get the parts.
guidothepimmp having had another look youre right.. its 3 or 4 degs accordi/g to my trusty protractor. had a look at the sustain block.. saw that the trem caity wasnt different and then noticed that the block is awhopper 45mm. guess that explains that.. how much do you know about midboost circuitry? dont know what to expect.. need to try a new battery before i start tinkering..
