Thanks for your input ?
if ic's are missing from a board you need to be asking why. The fact that there is a socket in place for one of them is (to me) a indication that the ic probably gave up its smoke repeatedly which in turn means a bigger issue than just replacing the ic.
I've checked around and it seems that a common mod is to replace some of the M5218A's with JRC4558's, which is potentially why there is a socket there. But you're very likely to be right.
This could take a lot ot time and money to address.
I agree with you here. Although I did pick it up for nothing, so I don't mind spending a little time and money on it if I can getting it going.
If the other larger ic is indeed "something to do with programming" and i agree the size could be indicative of an older programmable controller of some kind, then you will need at least the hex file as well as a programmer for the ic.
Ah... so this is going to be the big fish ??? is it not likely that the IC comes pre-programmed (to an extent) and the board (obviously with input from the switches etc) does the rest?
Also, with ic's clearly missing, what else is missing...?
According to my man, not much. the bottom plate + screws are missing, and the knobs are missing. those are fairly easy to sort out.
I've sent out a chunk of e-mails to ibanez/maxon/bothners/toms etc so I'll see what I get back.
