Doing a medley of the slow number "Tribute to Peadar O'Donnell" followed by a storming "Takarasaka". The band includes Shetland fiddle great Aly Bain and the always-fab Danny Thompson (who is mighty on this one).

This is not fair at all Bob. I have to get these series. Hopefully they will do a boxed set soon

This one is from series two - so you got to watch it on youtube :'(
I have 1, 3 and 4 on DVD. I know they are trying to sort out a release of series 2, and I hope they do. That may be the pick of the bunch with some great performances by John Martyn, Paul Brady and Eddie Reader and cajun fiddle great Michael Doucet also amongst the guests.

Good lord that was incredible, thanks Bob!!

Inspired by Squonk and Fritz I have called "time" on a day of tele-commuting and am sitting with Goblin's Bitter in the glass and Transatlantic Sessions 3 in the DVD. What a treat! The last three tracks have been (not in this sequence) Joan Osborne singing country, a great instrumental by Jerry Douglas and bluegrass guitarist Russ Barenberg, and three great fiddlers - Aly Bain, Jenna Reid and Bruce Molsky - playing a hornpipe. I feel my chakras re-aligning.

And I'm pondering the inter-connectedness of things, which maybe the point (or A point) of Transatlantic Sessions. Now on screen is Bruce Molsky who is from New York but is an expert and great exponent of Applachian fiddling. He's singing a song, "The Blackest Crow" which sounds distinctly Irish. He's joined by Julie Fowlis who is from the Hebrides, usually sings in Gaelic and doesn't record in English. Then add Jerry Douglas, reputed to be the most valuable player in Nashville.... and it all works so well and all the pieces slot into place.

Appalachian fiddling... Boy, does that conjure some images...
