I'm looking at getting a set of P90's but I can't figure out from pictures how they're mounted.

Anyone?
Depends - dogear mounts are more commonly used for archtops (especially those without centreblocks), while the soapbars are more commonly used with solidbodies. The dogears screw directly into the top while the soapbars screw directly into the body (the two screw heads can be seen between the polepieces). Usually foam tape or springs are used under the soapbars to push them up when adjusted.
What guitar are you planning on putting them in?

When I installed mine into my archtop, I had to work out a way of lowering it as the soundboard was too close to the strings for the pickup to fit. What I ended up doing was gluing two small nuts on the bottom of the flatwork with Pratley's Quickset Steel, and sandwiching the soundboard between the cover and the pickup with some small bolts I had lying around. I also had to grind down the base of the cover a little to fit the contour of the top.

Don't know if the above info will help in your situation, but I thought I'd share anyway.

      Good luck!
I'm curious as well, I have to mount some dogears sometime soon, haven't started googling yet.
If it's the artcore in your profile pic, you'll get soapbars - not dogears - and they'll screw directly into the solid centre block with two long screws. That's why the Soapbars kind of look like they have too many pole-pieces. It's because of mounting screws running through them.

You will have gaps as they're a lot narrower than humbuckers. I don't know if anyone's got a pickup ring that covers those gaps.

More normally, people fit a humbucker sized P90 like this one from Seymour Duncan:

Not quite the same look, but much more convenient. And they mount just like a humbucker. Best option for a humbucker replacement.

Dogears (with the wings) are only for hollowbody guitars. i.e., an acoustic guitar with a pickup fitted like the Gibson ES330, or the Gibson ES175.

I have those in my SG, I dig them. They sound huge through my marshall.
I'm looking at fitting a set of black Tonerider P90's into the black scratch-plate of a Fender Strat. I will keep the Seymour Duncan Vintage Stack (with black cover) in the middle position. I'm very keen to do this and I think it will be an awesome combo with a cruel look. The Strat's body has been pre-routed for an HSH config so that won't be a problem. I might have to tweak the cavities a bit.

I had a look at the Tonerider P90 pictures and I can see the 2 extra holes in the middle. Is this where the screws go through to turn directly into the body?

                Yup - exactly.

IME, a pair of P90s work better than three or two and a Strat middle pickup.

How do they sound with the archie?
I have a set of gfs mean 90's in an epiphone strat. They're normal 'bucker size p90 pups, so it was a drop-in fit into a hh strat pickguard. Not too bad, but they don't wow me like the gfs retrotrons did. Mind you I dont play that guitar that often, so maybe I just need to spend some time with it to find the sweetspot in pickup height and balance and the best amp settings for it.

Alan, I WANT the 3-pickup setup! I can always go to a 2-pickup setup later on. I have scratch-plates for this.

As I understand it now the Tonerider P90's come with black rubbers that fit under the pups to allow you to adjust their height exactly.

*It* sounds pretty damn good to my ears ? don't have much to compare it to though. had a lot of noise in the beginning but i got some proper cables which sorted that out.
Received my Tonerider P90's this morning. Very nice indeed! Can't wait to get home and start chopping away.

                          It's almost like sex . . . . . hmmmmmmmmmmm . . . Almost! ?
I also need to pick up a parcel, it is either my Lollar P90's or my wiring harness.
