So, 2am on Monday morning I wake up with this unbearable pain in my chest.
I call the ambulance and I'm rushed off to the heart hospital.
Many ECG's later, the heart specialist decides to do an angiogram at 1pm, and if he finds anything wrong he will do an angioplasty.
He finds a severe restriction in one of the main arteries in my heart, so he decides to open up the artery and put in a stent. All done under local unaesthetic and within half an hour.
I was kept in ICU overnight for observation and released this morning.
I'm now safely at home, ready to fight another day and to enter this weeks challenge. ?
It's amazing what the doctors can do nowadays.

I went through similar 11 years ago (at the ripe old age of 33) and I'm still here too. ? So I know exactly how you feel.
In most cases it's a quick fix, but there may be some damage to your heart as a result, which will need keeping an eye on. They will probably put you on some meds to limit the chances of a reoccurance. Any instability to your heart rhythms since?

the same thing happened to my father in law and I can swear he is healthier and fitter than me now.
He did change his lifestyle a wee bit. Diet etc.
medicine is amazing!
Good to have you still on board!

I also had the same thing 13 years ago - 4 blockages. He checked those and they're doing fine. This was a new one. Apart from my usual cholesterol and aspirin medication he has added Clopidogrel Winthrop - not sure what it does - will find out when I see him six weeks time. Heart rhythm seems to be fine and and no perceivable damage. My doc says apart from taking it easy for the next few days, I can live life the same way as before.

Hi Pete....speedy recovery hey !
Clopidogrel (75mg) prevents thrombosis especially around the stent.

Clopidogrel Winthrop stops blood clots from forming - commonly prescribed for a while after fitting a stent or for those with peripheral arterial disease.

Hi Pete, glad to hear you got it sorted quickly and efficiently. Happened to a mate of mine about 6 weeks ago , a fit healthy 41 y/o .. if it were not for the fact that he lived close to a hospital anddrove himslef there he could of been tickets...
best advice i can give is DO NOT listen to advice except that of your cardiologist (no offence intended to anyone)

Yep Pete,
I am told that the old Dispirin or Aspirin saves many many....... many lives, when taken on the onset of chest pains, as a precautionary measure, the key is of course not to the forget about it once the pain is gone ......but to seek medical assistance
Happy days if it turns out to be indigestion.
Regards
Attila
PS Its good that you are OK
