joel Also a 1959 Gibson Les Paul.........my favourite Youtube clip.....(a repost , for those that haven't seen/heard this before )
Squonk In the Gregor Hilden post he has such great tone! What would he be using to get this tone? I actually prefer this tone to Bonamassa's and Moore's a more overdriven tone.
singemonkey Not the liveliest player I ever heard, but very melodic, and great tone as you say. I used to wonder what the both-pickups-on position was even for. Then I realised from Clapton that it's one of the great strengths of the Les Paul - the ability to create this unbelievable tone by blending the two pickups in volume and tone to taste. It's why IMO every blues player using a two humbucker guitar with four controls should make sure they get good pots and caps. Without them, you lose a major bonus of having such an instrument.
AlanRatcliffe Snowy White's Bird of Paradise has always been a benchmark for me. And of course, Knopflers Brothers in Arms.

AlanRatcliffe I'm not wild about the mix in that YouTube clip from the Monserrat concert - the DVD is far better. But yes, still gives me goosebumps every time I hear him do that song. Another version (from the excellent Night in London DVD):
bloukie Gotto agree with you on Knoppie's "Night in London". It really is an excellent DVD. That DVD also introduced me to Sonny Landreth's slide.
Reinhard Ill check your clip when I get home Joel. The amp is a KittyHawk from the track info. Gregor has numerous clips on youtube as"gregsguitars" and he always has stellar tone. His clips were the reason I ordered a Okko Diablo OD pedal.
Reinhard I like the middle position on a LP, but one quiet afternoon a while back, I did the Peter green mod on my LP. Really gives you a bunch of new tones, but yes you need decent pots and caps. It is almost strat'ish.
singemonkey Rob dos wrote thats some sexy shit right there Yeah. That Reinhard when he starts to talk Les Pauls... ?
