Hey guys,
Im thinking about buying an orange amp but cant decide between the orange rocker 30w head and the rockerverb 50w head. I plan on buying one of those two and getting the orange 2x12 closed back cab with it.
I've done some research on the two, but cant seem to get a clear answer on what i should get, suppose it is going to come down to what amp works for me. Most common cons of the orange rocker is that the clean channel has no EQ (whereas the rockerverb has a clean EQ) and relies solely on the guitar's natural sound. But im not to worried about a SICK clean channel, if the clean sound is decent then that's fine with me. Also the rockerverb has 3 EL 34's and the rocker only 2, which i dont think will make a big diff for me.
The price of these amps is pretty steap, so i really wanna make sure i get the right one. I havent played on any of the two yet, but am planning on going to marshall music in cape town in the next 2 weeks to try them out and then decide.
Any comments about the amps will be MUCH appreciated!!
I currently play with a marshall 40w haze amp, but i do a full bypass with my line6 pod and use the pod as my amp. The marshall haze doens't have enough oemph for me, thats why i currently use my pod to do the work and it sounds pretty good. But I wanna move away from using the pod as my dist. I love the orange's dist, thats why i wanna get orange and then just use my pod for effects.
I play in two bands, one post hardcore the other more alternative/punk. I think these amps will suite it perfectly.
Thx
PS - sorry for the long post.....

You said it, once you have played on both your ears will decide.
Orange is quality kit and unfortunately it costs money but i am over hte moon with mine ...it really is excellent. TT combo.
go to the community (forum) at www.orangeamps.com and run a search or ask the same question ...you will get answers.
Lastly , negoitate a lot on the price once you have made yr choice .... there seems to be a fair amount of room to negotiate on the orange range.
Lastly , ORange are not renowned for compatibility with effects pedals so take that along when you test as well..
cant go wrong with orange ,good luck with your purchase

Cool thx man,
Yeah, i'm def taking my pod with to check the effects. Im also planning on getting 3 or 4 stomp boxes eventually and not use the pod anymore, but yeah, will def find out about that!
I am pretty sure im gonna be happy with either of them, at the moment its coming down to price and availability. The rockerverb might be available now, but 1 or 2 grand more expensive, and the rocker only comes in jan.
Thats my reason for asking between the two... ?
I think if both we're available now, id prob go for the rocker.

I have been a bit curious about orange amps after reading Peter Green used them at one time or another, whether the new ones will sound like that I am not sure. What output are these heads? 30w sounds like a great idea, but only if I can run it into a 16 ohm cab.

oooh the Orange Dual Terror is AWESOME!!!
It gives me more GAS than a Johnny's Roti at 1am....

rockerverb 50 is the answer
rocker 30 has no effects loop and if you ever plan on using delay and or post eq with the amps overdrive you going to have a hard time.
go to the orange amp forum, and youll get plenty of questions that have been answered there about the 2 amps.
you could of course add an effects loop (mod the amp) but i just dont think you should fork all that cash out to then still have to mod the amp.
Good luck man

How old are you? The 30 will be a little lighter ?
Are you mike'd or line'd out to PA? Otherwise 50 may be needed for your styles of music...
Smuts182
Im 25 now, been playing in the post hardcore band for about 3 years, just started with the side project.
I'll usually be mic'ed up, i dont wana play straight through a PA. I've read that the rocker 30 is surprisingly loud....
I think the rocker will def be louder than my 40w haze amp, and the haze is loud enough, so i dont really see any
problems regarding loudness.
Vick
The rockverb is darker sounding then the rocker 30,its really noticeably,so yea, think it might be a better bet,but the rocker 30 will also nail what your looking for....
Don't forget to check out the thunder 30,its the amp that orange is replacing the
Rocker 30 with,REALY impressive.... ?
IceCreamMan
ORange amps are surprisingly loud for their relative wattages. over engineered i suspect. beuaty of orange is with the gain dialed in a bit
30 Watts is plenty ...
my TT is a 15 watter ... volume wise it will run with pretyt much anything out there up to 100 w SS i reckon nad in most cases give it a snot klap...
Smuts182
I did have a look at the thunderverb, but pricewise its just just too much. I would prefer that one, but yeah, i think i'll just have a look at the
rocker and rockerverb first and then decide.
But like you said vick, i really think i'll be fine with any of the two.
Thanks alot for the help guys, appreciate it...
Now to hope enough stock comes in january ?
gonna have to put down a deposit...
Vick
Thunderverbs are amazing,a also wanted one,but then I got a AD30,I'm so inlove with that amp,but the thunder 30 is gona be a bit cheaper then the Rocker 30.....or that's what iv read....
But like I sad,the rocker and rockverb are killer amps man....keep us posted man ?
Smuts182
Yeah man, will definitely keep you guys posted if i buy one of the amps ?
but its still a while till then, sucks to wait...
anyway, till then....
Smuts182
Hey guys,
Well, I tested the orange rocker and the thunderverb 50 this weekend. They both sounded pretty awesome! I was amazed at what the thunderverb could do!! The built in attenuator, i must say, is something spectacular, dont know why all valve amps dont have one built in??
Anyway, I'm definitely thinking of going for the thunderverb. The only thing that had me a bit worried, was die channel B gain, sounded a bit too much metal for me. You can tweak the tone with the gain and shape nobs to get a better "lighter" dist, but I was just wondering if it wont be just better going for the rockerverb 50? Unfortunately i couldn't play on one, but I did some reading in forums and it seems the rockerverb wins the fight against the thunderverb?
I saw that the cleans of the rockerverb is way better than the thunderverb, although im not too set on the crispiest cleans. A normal clean sound will suffice...
Also, i think the rockerverb will be a little less expensive than the thunderverb which will obviously help ?
Let me know what you're thoughts are... I'd like the amp to be versatile enough to play in a post hardcore genre to a punkrock alternative genre. I think actually both will do, but which one will be better suited for it..
Thx
Vick
Like, both those amps are versatile, the two thunderverb channels are like two different amps...
The rockverb will not have as much bottomend as the thunderverb, like a very noticeable difference, and the rockverb, thou I can do older tones, its over all sound is a lot more modern then the thunder....
The only real gripe I have with orange amps, are that the reverb ain't that good IMO.
I doubt that you'll be disappointed with either or those bad boys...thou I'd go for the thunder personally... Could you pm me the price there asking for the thunder head if its oky with you?thanx
nicovlogg
I'd also recommend the Dual Terror - great little amp, 30 Watts is plenty and the fat channel is fantastic. The Rockerverb is also great, but I found the reverb awful and 50 watts is just about too much for my needs. Either way, I've never played an Orange I didn't think was awesome, so I doubt you'll go wrong.
