There are two logical fallacies that can be made relating to this.
The ad hominem argument is where you attack an argument on the basis that there's something wrong with the person presenting it ("Ferraris are fast? This from a person who drives a Toyota!").
The argument from authority - in which you claim an argument must be right because someone respectable has supported it ("Well President Obama likes Ferraris, so who are you to say they're not better than Lamborghinis.")
Neither of them says anything about the actual argument. The argument is not related to the person presenting it and can be safely evaluated on its merits - independent of who supports it.
A lot of 4ssholes have had brilliant ideas, and a lot of really great, intelligent, well-respected people say really stupid things sometimes.
