Hi, While we're on the Take 2 bandwagon... ? I've been surfing on Take 2's USA store a long time and it seems that the strong rand is really in our favour...

How come the Gibson threads always bring out a bunch of haters? It is a trend on the forum. I would even speculate people jumping on the poor quality control band wagon, even without seeing it for themselves. I've been to many guitar stores, and most instruments play like a POS due to a bad setup or old strings etc. Structural problems are a no-brainer, but unfortunately we can't return the instrument for warrantee repairs (not that I am aware of for Gibson in SA). But if you do come across something locally with issues, why buy it? Move on, find one that is 100 percent.

They don't. They may attract people with different opinions when it comes to gear, but that's not the same thing.

It is the ONLY topic on this Forum (apart from "which plectrum do you use", etc) which will churn out a vibrant debate.

Do you include those people who a prone to making disparaging remarks about Tokais and Carparellis?

No brand should be beyond discussion, and if somebody says they think Smoothtalkers are butt ugly, not worth the money and/or sound terrible I should understand that they are not actually dissing me.

Depends on how it's being said. If it is being implied that you must be nuts to spend waaay too much on a guitar that's not worth it when compared to others and that you are looking at the wrong reasons when you justify buying one because of the name on the headstock, then yes - I can see that it can feel like its personal. It's like posting a pic of your new girlfriend on facebook and everybody publicly commenting on how you could have gotten a better looking one that even likes to cook and clean if you tried harder - without ever having met the girl in the picture.

CDee.......if I were you, and you are happy to get that Gibson for that price........whether you want it for the name on the headstock, or any other reason, GET IT. The only person you need to keep happy is yourself.

I've been gassing for a PRS 513, but have gotten side-tracked with other toys meanwhile, and I don't care what anyone has to say, or their opinions, I make myself happy. Period! I really hope this so-called "debate" has'nt put you off........Go for it!

I do recall a heated thread about Ibanez once upon a time as well...

Then you get changing opinions as well. for example, while I think a Boss Gt8/10 is well worth the bucks I am starting to dislike it.. (i'll start another thread for that....)

as Aubs said, by all mans get the guitar YOU want, then take pics and tell us how great it is (or isn't) and share the experience. Thats what Forums are about after all. ?

Personally i would buy a cheap guitar like my Squire bullet and start to pimp it out by buying some new pickups etc. eventualy it would be better then the Gibson you bought and it would be more cost efficient.

Really? Come now vic, you know what forums are like. You should always expect a debate to happen. This is what happens when a bunch of people who are passionate about stuff congregate in the same place. We talk, we agree and we disagree. Discussing it helps get opinions in order and ideas lined up. It is also entertaining for fence-sitters on certain topics to read and is sure fun to partake in.
Are you suggesting we NOT reply when someone posts a thread? That we NOT question each other? If anything it can help reaffirm ones interest in a topic/brand/whatever. Nobody is going to never talk to someone else cos they agreed or disagreed. let the debate continue, for as long as there is debate, there is GFSA and we all learn from each other and ourselves.

Please give us more detail...what type of pickups,.... will you change the wood, neck, headstock, bridge, etc. as well ?
