I posted earlier about the crappy line out sound and I've been doing some research. Found out about Impulse Response files, which are new to me. Seems like they are a kind of EQ meets Reverb .wav file usually that gets used to change the dynamics of your input. Obviously people use real amps and mics and make these files. I went home over lunch and tried some out through Space Designer in Logic 8, and I must say, even from 15 minutes of fiddling around, the results are really awesome. It takes the brittle line out and really gives it some character.
Did a search and found some IR resources, downloaded the demo of Recabinet as well. Some good sounds there.
So, anyone have experience with these things? Know some tips, good resources etc. I'm still not sure exactly what it is, but am reading up on it.
Cheers.

Convolution (AKA "IR" or even "Imaging") is great for reverbs, speaker cabs and mic preamps to add a very realistic character. The only things are that you don't get many options for tweaking tones on most convolution processors (except Waves IR and one or two others) and they are relatively processor hungry.
