TubeScreamer: Which one should I go for???

Hi Guys I'm in the process of setting up a new effects rig. One of the pedals I've always wanted to ad for solo work is a decent TubeScreamer... My choices at present are one of the following: Ibanez TS-808; TS-9 and TS-9DX. (I have a TS-7 to fiddle around with.) I'm leaning towards the TS-9DX at the moment as it seems to offer the most. I know many prefer the 808... I'll be running the pedal into a Mesa Dual Rectifier. Any info/experience shared will be greatly appreciated as always.

PM received. Thanks for the kind offer. I'll be in touch as soon as my new rig is set-up and I've familiarized myself with the control system. Cool feature of my control system is that It's supposed to be 100% transparent and has 4 true-bypass loops integrated which means we can test 4 pedals back-to-back at a time without affecting the overall tone for a true comparison. If we end up doing a shootout, we might as well document our findings and post it as a review on GF so that all interested parties can hopefully benefit from it...

so where does the TS7 (tonelok) fit in? any good? good modding platform even? i see they're SUper cheap..

Not sure if you are in to electronics DIY, but my approach was to build a TS-808 clone and then mod it to my tastes. I built the BYOC Overdrive II which can be build as an exact replica of the TS-808, even down to using the original JRC op amp, but also has separate a clean boost. I did the Keeley 'more gain' mod and in addition to the symmetrical clipping diodes, I used a symmetrical pair if MOSFETS (BS170) which gives slightly more edge. I changed a couple of the capacitor values to alter filter cut off frequencies.
The BYOC kits are well designed and easy to build. I also had fun with the graphics on the box. ?

Looked at the tonelok, seems ok and reviews cool but you can get a TS-9 for 1k and then get Matt to mod it for you for a couple of hundred. Then you've got as close to the original as you're going to get. Plus a blue LED ?
