Hey Guys
I set up a little home recording thingamajig. Just my Line 6 Spider Valve running the balanced line out through my x-station and into an Imac with Logic 8. I'm using the guitar cab designer in Logic to try and get a good sound. It's a bit limited but I'm getting a nice clean sound. The problem is, with any of my distorted model settings from the Line 6, the sound is just freaking horrible. Thin, very high end fuzzy, and just lame. I've tried EQ, tried the cab sim, nothing yields results that I like. Any suggestions from you guys on how to take a line out and make it sound better? Obviously when I record properly, I will mic it up. But for doing demos at home where I can't turn up my amp, this is the only option.
Also, getting really bad interference on my pickups, and I can only move so far away from the mac. It's spoiling the recordings. Any help on reducing this? I'm thinking of getting the Decimator G Major pedal, but have to order that from overseas.
Peace.

maybe try not using the amp and use pc based effects.
The amp is designed to sound good out of the speaker, not necessarily into a pc. and any digital distortion will sound horrid...

Experiment with different speaker sims until you find one you like. Not all sims are equal, some just use EQ, some use modelling some use convolution.
If you're getting tons-o-hum(TM) from your computer, it's probably one of the older CRT monitor models? Not much you can do other than upgrade to an LCD model or use noiseless pickups. That's the downside of IMACs.

Try get a Line 6 POD pedal,, I get excellent overdrive sound out of it, and very vast selection of amp simulations. I agree with Alan's point on the CRT. I once had the neighbours electric fence driving me nuts (was getting this terrible ticking sound coming through my recordings) >☹ but luckily he fixed it..
