Standard Tele retails at R8995, so you can probably pick 'em up for about the same after discount and at least get to play it before you buy.

Yup, she's a latino mamasita? Let me see if I can explain a bit better why I bought her. I dont really like the mim teles that much, mainly because the available finishes don't fit my ideal tele look. My options as I saw them was to get a classic vibe tele in that gorgeous vintage blonde, or to save up some more and hope that a natural or butterscotch blonde mia pop up in the classifieds when I had the dough. Then I saw this mentioned on the tdpi forum while surfing for info on the c.v. Its a fsr model and not a standard Standard, only available in the states. So I tried take2 and there it was. I dont think its a bargain, but I think its worth it. I live in kimberley, so no matter what I buy it will be without playing it first. The local okes dont stock mid priced or high end guitars. Even in Bloem options are limited. So ja, I'm hoping I get a good one, but to be honest even if I don't I wouldn't know it - theres nothing here to compare it to.

whats the difference with the fsr model?
Also we wont be getting this colour variation in sa and itll be worth more sooner due to the limited run.

From what I gathered Fender Special Run models are made to order by the big U.S. chains, according to their requested specs and price points. So not neccesarily better, but different. This model has an ash body as opposed to alder, a clear coat natural finish as opposed to the coloured finishes, alnicoV pups instead of ceramic ones, and a tortoise shell pickguard instead of a white or black one. The rest is the same as the regular standard - necks, tuners, electronics and hardware.

found it, much more expensive than the USA... think Ill rather get my friend in the states to send it.
This costs A LOT! It's really less hassel and for me personally, just easier to buy it here. It's a couple grand more, but I'm supporting my local store and I don't have to go through hassels of trying to get fedex to send it to me.
chris77
Its not even more expensive than what I could get a new mim tele for locally. It works out about the same. So ja I agree, if you can, get a guitar locally and support the stores. The only reason I brought her in is I love the natural ash look, and the fsr mim is the cheapest way to get one. Std mim's dont come in natural ash. Might just be the gushing praises of a new parent, but man, the wait was worth it. Lovely, lovely guitar. The body is a bit darker than I expected and the maple neck is a lovely whitish colour that contrasts beautifully with it. The grain is also what I hoped for - its a 3pce body, but the grains blend well. Will post some pics this weekend. I've already got a couple of mods in mind though. I have a black pickguard and a mia string tee that will be fitted when time permits. Then I would like to swop the bridge to a vintage one with brass saddles and get a seventies F-style neckplate as well. All in all it will still come in way cheaper than even a used mia tele, plus I get to tinker with it a bit?
chris77
Oki dokes... some pics.
Bodyshot. The tortoiseguard is actually nice...but the bridge will have to go. Also the knobs are a bit shiny and quite coarse. I will be looking at a vintage style bridge with brass sadles and replacement knobs I think.
The neck is lovely. Currently the guitar is fitted with a set of 9's and it plays like a dream. I have been fitting my other electrics with 10's and 12's for a while now, but the 9's really makes it a pleasure to play and I think I will go back to them, in time, on my other electrics as well.
the back
the small fender Special Edition sticker on the back of the headstock
I just placed the black pickguard over the tortoise one to get an idea of how it will look.

Looks very cool Chris - congrats !!

Looks very good! Personally I wouldn't touch the tortoiseshell pickguard, looks awesome!
needleshy
looks rad, i put some of those teflon saddles on mine and they are much better that the original saddles. never tried brass ones though. i think the black pickguard is looking good on it, but so does the other.
what kinda music you playing?
MIKA-the-better-one
Super nice guitar...... nice and simple in appearence..... and very sweet sounding i expect....... The natural finish always looks cool on teles...... not so much strats... but teles they really go well with
chris77
Thanks for the comments guys. Needleshy - I play a bit of bad rock, blues, pop and whatever else I can, except metal or shred. Not that I wouldn't want to, I just can't. :-S The neck pup is o.k and the middle position is great for clean tones, but the bridge is a killer hey. Lots of growl and bite without losing clarity. So far I love her. A lot.
