That looks like the clear coat has intentionally been removed, too precise to be just wear. There are a few top guitarists who do that so that the neck becomes "faster"........

John Mayer likes his strats like that, I agree it looks removed.

It cost a lot more than a new USA Stratocaster. 8)

This guitar was purchased from the original owners son and although it has been well played it is 100% original.
The ware on the back of the neck is consistent with that of the frets so I highly doubt the clear coat was intentionally removed.

Yep, he does, John Mayer that is. I don't think it's a train smash, in fact I believe it's probably an improvement on playability..... so when I saw that, I immediately thought of this, and a few others I've seen......looks consistent, but takes nothing away from the fact that it's an awesome vintage Strat!
