The theme for this weekend Season of Sauvignon event at the Bloemendal Wine Estate might have undergone a bit of a change but the tradition of getting guitar driven bands on the music programme remains (if you excuse the Piet Botha Boereorkes and the possibility of a backtrack singer or two).
Guitarists to watch out for on the Saturday (program starts from 11am) include:
Craig Cannone (together with friends)
Wayne Pauli (Gee, is this boy a sweet Strat player....)
Gerald Clark (Acoustic blues master)
Basson Laubcher (Zinkplaat's kitaarslaner and he of the tube screaming Strat slide)
Richard Pryor (I think we know him by now, hey?)
The Sunday program starts at 12pm and includes:
Dave v/d Linde (The reinventor of the funked-up Strat through the Vox AC30 sound)
The Diamond Back Blues band as well as the Studebakers will also be cranking out the blues, so it promises to be a great time to ask your mother in law to mow the lawn.

Thanks for the post there Bloukie,
It's gonna be an awesome fest. It's got a Hillbilly Farm theme this year but is still very Blues Driven!
Loads of awesome bands, wine & fun....(including a Mampoer Ice Bar)
Only R60 entry.
What a bargain!
See ya there.

Pleasure KayDUB!
What do you think of the line-up?
kayDUB
Well a lot of the non blues stuff I'm not into, except maybe would like to hear bed on bricks. Haven't heard of a lot of them either. its my birthday on sat so have been looking for something to do... ?
bloukie
Bed on bricks cook, belowe!
Dave van der Linde gets amazing tone from his Strat/Vox set-up and is a really creative player.
And a lot of blues or blues inspired acts in the line-up for a Plaasfees. Three on Saturday and three on Sunday.
Great day for a B/Day, kayDUB! ?
bloukie
Sorry, I forgot to mention that its R60 per person per day. Mike Crawford who is putting the event together assures me that this amount is charged to pay for the bands involved.
Seems fair, hey?
Cannon
Yup! A third of the price of the Summit....just sayin! 8)

Cannon,
Talking about Blues fests, and given the amount of Blues bands around at the moment ? (i.e. your band, The Studebakers, Diamondback Blues Band, Smokestack Mojo, Hellfire Blues Club) I suggested to Mike yesterday that he consider putting together The Little Known Blues Festival before the summer is through.
He thought it was a good idea, but wanted me to put the thing together for him.
What do you think about the idea and Fritz, Rene et all, what are your initial thoughts?
kayDUB
DO IT! ? Maybe start another thread?
bloukie
Sjoe KayDUB - great enthusiasm there!
You're not in one of those bands maybe, because I'n trying to get some contact details together?
kayDUB
Nope, I only have the blues in my personal capacity at the moment. ?. SSMJ = nick, reinhard, fritz. Hellfire = rene. PM the guys.
bloukie
Get out that guitar and play, man - its a guaranteed cure!
I'm just gotten hold of Fritz now and hope to contact the various bands next week at the latest.
I'll keep everyone posted here of developments.

? ? i like blues ? coming from the "metal" scene I am not familiar to the local blues scene (altho I have seen Dan P. what a shredder!) I am hoping to eventually start a blues/blues rock band when my skill levels are up.
So the question, any links to these blues bands so I can have a listen online?
thanks
Renesongs
Speaking for The Hellfire Blues Club all I can say it's a big YESSSS. We would love to take part in an up and coming blues band event at Bloemendal
bloukie
Shot Rene! I'll drop you a mail with some broad outlines a little later.
Shadow, you're going to have to pose that question to the bands themselves. I do believe they might direct you to some interesting footage and audio.
