We owe so much to this man

Rock 'n roll owe so much to this guy....now 84

Think Johnny B Goode, Maybelene, No particular place to go, Rock 'n roll music, Roll over Beethoven, Route 66, You never can tell, ...etc. 8)

His songs were recorded by anyone who was someone in R'n R and R&B....as big an influence, if not bigger, as Buddy Holly, or the Beatles (imho)
Berry's lyrics are so down to earth, always tell a good story, ... ?
And...he's still performing!

Right on Vic.............I came across this a few months ago, just love it............. ?

"Come on Keef, GET IT RIGHT!!!!!".....

The first time I heard the Beatles's version (did'nt know it was a Chuck Berry tune then) of "Rock and Roll Music", was the day I became a Beatles fan!!!

For some reason I though that Chuck Berry had died like 20 years ago. Nice to know his still with us. He is an inspiration IMO one of the founding fathers of electric rock guitar

I had also thought so. Glad I'm not the only one who made that mistake.

I can think of some alternative torture for Malcolm Mc Dowell in Clockwork Orange. Instead of forcefeeding him loud classical music (can't remember the details), tie him to a chair so that he can't tap a foot or move a muscle and then play some rock and roll at him!

Keif said a couple of years back that he still listens to CB every day. I'd heard so little of him, I also thought he'd snuffed it at some point.

The man was a genius. His lyrics, designed to appeal to white teenagers, are just so freakin' good. The way they compliment the incredible rhythms. Just amazing:

"You know she wink like a glow-worm, dance like a spinning-top,
She got a crazy formula, make you wanna reel an' rock,
Long as she got a dime, the music will never stop."

It may not be from choice. Chuck's had several brushes with the law and with the tax man, and he might have rather less in the piggy bank than one would think.

Apparently his MO is still the same: Turn up at the venue, play with whatever band is provided and with no rehearsals. Though he plays at Blueberry Hill fairly regularly it seems, so you'd expect the house band there would know his stuff by now.

"He use to carry his guitar in a gunny sack
And sit beneath the trees by the railroad track.
Oh, the engineers used to see him sitting in the shade,
Playing to the rhythm that the drivers made.
People passing by would stop and say
Oh my that little country boy could play"
