I have been trying out a thumbpick, a dunlop medium, like so:
Problem is that the plectrum part (the tip) is much too thick for my liking. My favourite plec at the moment (I really mean at the moment, I usually change every week or so...) is a GHS strings thin or medium, depending on what I am playing. They seem to measure about 0.5mm and 0.8mm respectively.
Question 1: Does the medium marking on the thumbpick refer to the thickness of the point or to the size of the thumb it is designed to accommodate?
Question 2: What other thumbpicks can you recommend and why?
Question 3: Is there a thumbpick that can be placed on the thumb but between the thumb joint and your hand? This way you can use the pick by keeping your thumb parallel to the strings or you can use the tip of your thumb if it is bent slightly.
Question 4: With regards to strumming - the down strokes are nice and tight, but I find my up strokes are loose and jagged, since the thumbpick seems to klank-klank-klank its way upwards. Is there a thumbpick that has a slight downwards curve in its point to prevent this and make the upstrokes smoother or do I simply have to angle my hand more than I'm used to?
Sorry about the silly questions, this is all new to me...
