Keira Witherkay does the strolling musician thing at art and wine fair

Keira Witherkay during a performance at a wine and art show at Indulgence cafe ( sept 2010) left the fixed stage for periodic 'walks" between the exhibitions using her portable Behringer EPA 40 amplifier...... the result was hugely successful and the sound was amazingly pure ....... the guitar is a vintage yamaha nylon from 1970's fitted with LR Baggs i beam active classical pickup then into the LR Baggs gigpro preamp (which is seen on the guitar strap) and then directly into the Behringer EPA40 portable PA ,

i must say i missed the other percussion ( i do with the cajun and bass drum pedal and the cymbals and cowbell and tamborine when i was walking around but it was fun and the crowd loved it ....... this was the first time i tested out this portable rig and it works great ...... the sound was quite natural.......... considering thats just a 5 " speaker the in gig test of the system passed with flying colours............

it's been taking me a while with much experimentation but i'm getting my compact but effective travel rig together and everything is battery powered which is a must for travelling ........... at moment i can set up my full rig of percussion( which gives me bass drum /tamborine/cowbell/splash cymbal/chimes and guitar and all the flamenco style percussion on the guitar itself....so a wide range and all accesable together live..... ) and play in the middle of the wilderness or the middle of the street or in a venue and i have great sound...... so my quest for a true lightweight travel system is almost at it's zenith....... but i always have new idea's to incorporate

Nice walking there Keira... ? oh, and the playing also sounds nice...portable and all. Good idea.
When are you spreading your wings to down under ? (Stellenbosch for example). There are plenty of opportunities down here and we'll love to hear you in the flesh so to speak.

yeah well the portable was only for brief times between sets i walked about a bit........... but the travel system is the one i'm really focussing on........ just so frustrating how to get a full sound and keep it down in weight but it's getting there ...... i need to weigh it all soon then eliminate more somehow............ at moment i'm already finding plastic casing for the mixer i use......rather than the metal chasis and the percussion is all mic'd up.....so i need to swop out heavy mic's for small lapel type ones but they just soooooo expensive for the ones i want and i need 4 of them .... but yes when i'm done i'll have to find a new hobby ? this has been my hobby.......errr maybe even obsession for last 2 years ......

as for CT performances .yeah that wil be on the cards sometime............ soon i hope....... my parents live there so added motivation .but jhb just keeps me busy at moment .....

@ vic if you know people who organise gigs in stelenbosch area pm the details it would be appreciated....... and who knows i might be there sooner than you think........

Well, I have an attitude that goes "the older you get, the more licence you have to do what you feel like(without harming others)", so if you feel like it then I say go for it.

? heheh viccy the will is there and i've lived my entire life being willing to go to all lengths for "the show" but afraid in this case the body is weak.......... heheheh ever wonder why older musicians choose to sit and play .......... and i'm still too young for a hip replacement ....... so lets not tempt it with dance steps ?

Walking and playing looks hard enough as it is, although sitting for two hours gives me serious num-bum, so to be able to walk around looks really usefull.

for numb bum........... the secret is comfortable seating. i usually carry my own comfy chair to a gig and if i'm using the cajun like i do almost exclusicvly these days i bring a comfortable pillow to sit on............. ?

I think it's great. It looks very compact and didn't seem to interfere with your ability to play at all........
