Here's an awesome clip of Tosin Abasi from Animals As Leaders playing Wave Of Babies.

He's using an Ibanez RG2228 with EMG808X pickups plugged into a Fractal Audio Axe FX going directly into the desk. The guitar is tuned like a standard 7-string with an extra low E on the bottom.

I highly recommend their album.

So good. His style seems pretty unique to me - or does he sound like someone else I don't know about?

This puts paid to the common wisdom you can't get good clean tone from EMGs. (Actually much of the 'common wisdom' re. EMGs is not entirely fact based imo.)
