Yeah right! Lennon could afford to say things like that. I don't recall him placing his songs in the public domain. I do recall his lawyers, accountants and publishing company making sure that John got his cut every time one of his songs was used or played.

Quotes should be always be seen in context....the John Lennon one above could have been uttered when they (the Beatles) discovered that Northern Music holds all the rights to their music (circa 1965) ?. Most musos in those days were very naive and bad business people as well....the record companies and publishers dictated all the way.
