Hi guys. Haven't posted in ages, but anyway, I got a new band together. Finally sorted out our drummer issues and now we are MEGALODON!!!
This is a quick clip we did over the weekend. This was the first time I heard the song with guitar, drums, bass and vocals at the same time. Enjoy

the shark that eats whales.
sounds good. the vocals is just a bit soft.
good production as well.
raithza
really like the rhythm playing. Good meshuggah-esque groove except I can listen to it without losing my mind completely. Like the tone and overall production too. How did you record?
BMU
Saw this on ss.org but there are so many great recordings posted there, I didn't get to it. Didn't know it was from a Saffrican!
Sounds good. Heavy as a really heavy thing. Obviously, it is an RG2228 after all. Production is pretty good.
Nothing much to criticize, maybe tighter more chest-thumping wumph on the low palm mutes... The vocals sound a bit in front of the guitars to me, I'd prefer to hear more eight string and less exploding neck artery. ?
Which POD model? Big Bottom if I had to hunch a wild guess? LOL

Thank you for your comments. Been working ons the sound for a few months now. Next time I'll just record it less sloppy ?
Gear Used
Guitar
Ibanez RG2888 -> Pod XT Pro (Using the Big Bottom amp) -> Quad tracked into Logic 9 with some EQ
Bass
LTD F4 -> Pod XT Pro (same patch as guitar) -> EQ and Compression in Logic 9
Drums
Steven Slate Drums 3.5 (Megalodon Drumkit) -> The cymbals and room ambieces have been compressed and then sent
to another buss where the whole kit is compressed together
Vocals -> Rode K2 Mic into Logic with just some EQ, Compression and Delay.
BMU
Well I wouldn't call it sloppy if you quad'ed it and it sounds like one guitar, good work!
SSD 3.5 looks pretty nice, did you buy it in SA?
...and can you EQ invidual kit pieces in the VST instrument itself, or do you need to send them to separate tracks and use the DAW's EQ? (I know that can be done, watched a video on the Slate website. Just wondering if there's a simpler way.)
Ruan7321
Aw thanks ?
Yes you can EQ a bit in Kontakt 3.5 though limited. These samples are pre processed so not much tweaking is needed.
On the Megalodon kit I added some highs to the cymbals and some "whack" to the snare to get that Obzen type sound. You can also pitch shift individual samples, like say the snare is nice and tight but too 80's for your taste? (but I like that lol) then you can pitch it up to fit your mix.
You can also set the individual bleed levels of the toms, kicks snares, cymbals, etc and you have a choice of 2 rooms, SSD / NRG. Its a really good piece of software and can be used with electronic kits such as the Roland TD series (maps included).
I bought it straight from Steven Slate Drums at www.stevenslatedrums.com. I upgraded from SSD 2.0 so I don't know what they cost now.
Hope that helps.

Ok I listened again: I really like the "chorus" (lol) riff at 1:14. It's only in that section I thought the vocals can come down a tad, btw. Not the opening riff part. (And what do I know anyway.)
That helps stacks re SSD, thanks. Those drums of yours sound awfully good.

Very cool, I liked it!

Hey guys,
You can get Steven Slate Drums locally, lucky cause its a freaken huge download. I saw it at Marshall Music in Woodmead this past week.
