I've also got custom-fitted NoiseBan earplugs. Had them for about 4 months now and they are fantastic - I can't recommend them highly enough. I got mine through an audiologist here in Slaapstad for R1300. Med aid didn't cover them (nice one, Discovery) but that just be my particular Discovery package. I've used them much more than I anticipated though (so far must in the audience at gigs, not even on stage) and think they're worth every single cent...They're comfortable, you can still hear everything clearly and you don't leave a loud venue with ringing ears, shouting at your friends!

Getting proper ear plugs is like buying life insurance for your ears... A once off investment that you'll use for years to come. ?

They make moulded plugs with interchangeable filters too, for musicians. Decent prices. Any experiences? Don't want to waste that kind of money.

Or is their another retailer on Ebay that you guys have had positive experiences with because the one listed in the topic earlier is currently on a extended christmas break and will only reopen Jan 31st and i want to try organize my earplugs before Rammstein ☹

Tried those guys in 2008, but they said they don't ship to SA. ☹ Haven't tried them since.

True, what I mean is that I don't want to spend that kind of money on earplugs with uneven frequency response. ?

Why yes IceCreamMan funny you should ask cos i bought a pair this morning and while not having tested em at practice yet i did try em out with Boston's best on the car stereo and i was mightily impressed with the reduction in decibels...

Right , i promised a review and herewith ...this for the Vater ear plugs for all muscicians....

My ears are generally shot courtesy of Sony's walkman in the 80's, lots of high speed motorcycle touring and to some extent heredity.... so the scene is set.
We practice at a rehearsal studio where the last couple of weeks the decibel levels have been going insane (well to my ears anyway we have not tested it but i will at next practice) anything over 85 dB is considered harmful to ears and law in most of EU is that if an employee works in an environment where noise levels are 85 + employer is compelled to provide hearing protection. Point is that we playing much louder than 85 db with a drummer in full cry. We practice for 3 hours.

Last week after practice when i got home i switched on the telly and it felt like i was under water and could not really discern what was being said. Additonally the sound in the studio felt "oppresive" if that makes sense.

The Vater units come with 2 sets of filters ,red for max blocking of db and green for lesser blocking. I immediately inserted the red filters and wore them from beginning to end just removing them when we took a time out. With them in i could hear perfectly (as perfect as i can hear that is) when we were talking but it certainly bocked out decibels when playing.

I got home ,switched on the telly and could hear....

not a scientific test by any means but i will be wearing em at every practice from now on..well worht the 200 ront or so i spent on em.

where did you get those Vaters? My ears ring at just about anything these days, can't even take people talking to loud at parties without aches ☹.

I picked em up at marshall music in woodmead. I suspect your local Dischem may have osmething similar though going to look tomorrow. just wont be branded Vater though.
