Have just been into Andy McGibbon's Guitar World
They have just got in an awesome shipment of Eastman Guitars, really nice instruments, solid wood construction with superb build quality and great tone.

They have also got two of the nicest Tokai Telecasters I have seen, one is a 52 reissue blonde, and the other a sunburst bound Tele.

Eastman guitars are very cool. I was GASsing for one a few years back - especially before Mosrite started doing MIJ reissues, and the Eastman guitar was about the only option for an affordable Mosrite style guitar.

Never heard a bad word about 'em. Near-"boutique" Teles at mass-production prices ?

You mean they do solid body electrics as well? The mandolins and arch tops are well regarded and reportedly offer big bang per buck. I don't know much about their flat tops, and didn't know they did electrics.

I want a 52 reissue Tele so bad.... they have a price tag on that one?

@Singe - I think you are confusing EastMAN (mandolins and acoustic guitars) with EastWOOD (modern, playable copies of Mosrite, Italia and Airline type electric oddities).

OK... I went, I saw, I played.

There's a whole range of models and prices. From about 4k to 22k. Please note that they ALL are solid wood and they ALL have a hard case. For about 13k you can get a pretty nice OM with Fishman electronics and a decent hard case. I didn't play them all, but I played one at R4k that had a satin finish, solid wood, hard case and I thought that was actually very good for the price. You could be picky about details, but it played well and sounded pretty good. Another I played cost a little more but had the Fishman stuff fitted. The budget end of the range really impressed me in terms of value for money. There are OMs, Jumbos and Dreadnoughts amongst the acoustics. Also some very lekker arch-top jazz boxes, a mandolin (and Eastman's mandolins enjoy a very good reputation) and a 335-ish semi-hollow that looked very nicely made.

Now y'all know that I'm a regular customer at Andy's and generally like the folks there, but please believe me when I say there are some bargains to be had here.

The Better 5/8 and I stayed for the braai/piss-up/concert. Some nice sets, a bit short time wise but some good quality. Thomas Selmer-Olssen was very good. Ditto Dax and Richard from "Them Particles". We didn't stay the distance, the show was still going when we made our excuses.

We had the pleasure of Squonk's company for the braai.

I was there on Saturday morning and those Eastman guitar are really nice. Entry level prices for the not so entry level specs. Good stuff. ?
