New cab day ?
I have had my plexi Super PA for about 8 years and never got round to buying a cab for it. The thought of a 4x12 just seemed too much. So recently I have been toying with the idea of getting a 50W 2x12 cab, pulling two power tubes to knock the amp down to 50W and running it like that.
I posted a want ad on gumtree and ended up with this cab. It has a G12 Heritage and G12 Vintage speaker inside. I THINK they are rated 65W each, I'll have to check.
Played the head through the cab today and the cleans are pretty damn sweet. It seems the 4 channels are each voiced a little different, I might try jumping them. Needless to say I havent cranked this amp yet, but I think it will take pedals really well, especially if I just want a touch of breakup for a bit of blues ?

I suppose you do know this, but just in case and for everybody else: by pulling tubes you change the impedance requirement for the amp. If for instance you had a quad pushing an 8ohm cab through the 8 ohm output and you pull two tubes, you must actually connect the amp to a 16 ohm cab or run the 8 ohm cab from the 4 ohm output.
It is easy to remember if you compare it to two guys riding a tandem bicycle: if one of them stops pedaling the other one is going to complain unless the one guy gets off the bicycle as well. This analogy fails if you want to know what happens with two guys pedaling for the weight of one (the two guys are going to distort at lower volume?) but you catch my drift.

I'm guessing here but is it by any chance a JCM2000 2x12? I have one for my TSL 2x12 combo and it's rated at 16 ohm and has exactly the same speakers in it.

Should be ok then right Gearhead?

Please bring it around next time so we can crank it through my 4x12 ?

IIrc both speakers come in 8 ohm and in 16 ohm plus you can connect them in series or parallel. In theory you can then have 4, 8, 16 and 32 depending on which ones they are and what you do 8)

Not really too clued up on ohmages etc. but yeah, Both speakers are rated 8 ohm each and I can run my DSL head with the cab using the 16 ohm output on the head.

The cab is 16 ohm, so like Gearhead said, should I decide to pull 2 tubes, I need to change the amp output to 8ohm.

Yeh Luke it is a JCM2000 cab, so I can run the head at 100W right?
I played it earlier, and it is not as loud as I thought it would be, strange.
I'd love to hear this head through a 4x12 ?

Looks kinda weird, the head is wider than the cab lol I need to get the pots checked, they are scratchy , but all of them are working.

It does look kinda wierd with the head bigger than the cab doesn't it? The last gig I played I used my DSL head and the 2x12 and it sounded great. More than loud enough ?

I'd dig to hear it through the 4x12 8)

Something is up, either the head was modded or something is wrong.
It is not even remotely as loud as I imagine a 100W head should be. I can easily play it on 6 in my flat (guitar volume on 7), 8 gets a bit loud and 10 is pretty damn loud, but not 100W loud. Might have to let Graeme check it out.

I remembered this morning that it's only a 50watt head now, but yea it should still be dam loud I think..

Does the cab also have that with other amps? Does the head also have that with other cabs? Do you get good distortion at full volume?
The head presumably has a effects send/return; does it not have enough volume when using the guitar into a pedal into the effects return? And what about guitar into head out the effects send into another amp's effects return?
