LONDON, England -- Police in southwestern England say a former member of the Electric Light Orchestra was killed in a freak collision with a huge hay bale that rolled down a steep hill.

The victim was identified on Monday as 62-year-old Mike Edwards, who played cello in the British rock band between 1972 and 1975.

Sgt. Steve Walker of the Devon and Cornwall Police said Edwards was driving a van Friday when he collided with a 600-kilogram (1,300 pound) hay bale that had rolled down a hill to the road.

RIP.

never a fan but did get tanked with Bev Bevan on more than one occasion in the 80's .....

Well at least he was big in his Hay-day..

ok I'll get my coat..... :-\

Actually heard this news on Adam Gilchrist's spot on John Robbie's show on 702

I was a bit of a fan in the 70's. I enjoyed the first album with Roy Wood, but I suppose they did tend to jump on the commercial band wagon in the 80's.

I loved some of the orchestral stuff and 'Mr Blue Sky' is still one of my favourite songs.

The irony of this story is that Mike had just beaten cancer!

Lovely part of the world, Devon and especially Totnes where he was killed.
