For me:
1) Distortion pedal - TS808 or maybe a T-Rex or Radial Tonebone.
2) Delay pedal - MXR Carbon Copy or even a DD3 (like mine ?).
3) Wah pedal - Crybaby or Morley.
I think you can get by with the above on almost any kind of music. The distortion pedal is a must if you do different kinds of music, and it should be one that can clean up a bit using the guitar's volume controls. Delay is just a staple to add some colour and depth to the sound. Wah pedal to spice up solos, funk lines, or even to use it as a tone pot.
