Noiseless PuPs - a stupid question if I may?

Are "noiseless" pickups (SC pups) considered noiseless just because the middle pup is reverse wound for no hum in position 2 and 4 or are the individual pups so called noiseless?

Are Tonerider pups true noiseless?

RWRP is what it's called when there's noise cancellation when you use 2 pups at a time.. They form a kind of humbucker.

Noiseless pickups are usually completely noiseless and uses fancy tech.

Nope the toneriders aren't noiseless. ?

Where I play there is already so many issues with noise - my previous strat had plenty issues with this and seemed to pick up lenty of stray signals and noise, so I thought noiseless would be essential.

How? Some tips would be appreciated as it seems to be a problem in our system as well if I'm not mistaken. But every bit helps.

What?!

The hum is how I know my amp is on and everything is working. ? I get worried if I don't hear it...

I suppose the noiseless people also want record players that don't make all the scratchy sounds? :? To me that's the whole point of those Bakelite coasters, otherwise just use CD's.

Embrace the noise, it adds character. When you hear that hum on high gain before a guitarist starts playing you know something big is about to happen and when he ends the song the remaining hum is the cue for the fans to nod in approval.... ?

Shielding helps cut much of the hum of a single coil guitar like a Strat by intercepting the hum before it gets to the pickups and wiring and draining it to ground. This is done by coating the body cavity with a conductive material such as an adhesive backed copper tape or an electrically conductive paint. The coating is then connected to the ground via a wire. The underside of the scratchplate should be backed with a copper or aluminium tape. In effect this puts the guitar's electronics inside a metal box. On a Strat which also has a cavity for the jack socket, the bottom and sides of this cavity should also be screened.

Of lesser importance (especially if the cavities are screened) is using shielded wire for the wires running from the pickups to the selector switch and from the volume control to the output jack socket.

Unfortunately with a less expensive guitar, the cavity is often not shielded at all, and you will probably find that the shielding tape is limited to the area behind the controls only. This is exactly what I found with my Strat, so I used some copper tape in order to correct this.

If you don't like hum and have issues with it, I would really consider the Kinmans. Shielding can only get you so far. Especially if you are gigging.

Buy once and buy right.

How do they compare with other noisless pups Mike? Thinking of the SD, Di MArzio Virtual Vintage, Fender Vintage noiseless etc.

They're very, VERY good man. Loads of local forumites will vouch for em. If I ever go noiseless, I won't waste my time with anything else.

Alan will soon chime in, he has experience with them.

My logic on it is, Toneriders - R1100, shielding R200? For a little extra you can get the right tool for the job. And they hold resale value pretty well.
