okay... So... in my second hand quest, i have found the following 2 amps,
a Marshall G30RCD and a Marshall Valvestate 8020.
Not withstanding the price...
which is the better amp? and why?
I cant find too much info, especially not spec wise of the Valvestate, and even the G30 doesnt have specs listed unfortunately!
so please help with this!
regards,
Norman

Are they both solid state amps? 'Cos then I'd say: "neither. Get a cube." ?
I don't know so much about Marshall's solid-state offerings from my experience.

I second the Cube suggestion. It is awesome for a first amp with loads of options.

I used to own a 8020 once upon a time. Wonderful amp, at the price I got it for.
The reason I sold it cause it was just not my thing, and paired with a PRS it was a serious rock machine...
It had a wonderful speaker in tho, Celestion G12T, which IMO was very midrangy and loved to be distorted, and that what it excelled at.
I like the sweet highs and a cleaner sound with some crunch... hence I sold it a few years ago.
I cant comment on the other, never played or have any experience with it ?

If the 8020 has a celestion, it's going to sound pretty darn great. It's not all solid state, the pre-amp is tube..
I have not had experience with the G30.. but personally, I'd stay away from marshall solid state stuff.. Especially the cheaper stuff, it just never did too well in my eyes!
BUT, i third the motion to get a small cube or even a vox valvatronics.. Both are GREAT beginner amps that have built in effects, different distortion sounds, it really is a great amp for multiple sounds.
