Looking for a Simple Recording unit! Any Suggestions?

I am looking for a small "SIMPLE TO OPERATE" recording device that will allow me to record basic backing tracks to play along to. I would also need to be able to record song ideas i.e. a vocal and guitar part. Does anybody have any experience with this type of unit?

i could possibly get criticised for saying this, but for something that basic and for your purpose, i'd say go for something like a behringer ucg-102. Cheap and simple but gets the job done.

You can always upgrade to something of higher quality and with more features later when you need to.

Thats not a bad price for the Tascam. It looks very easy to use as well.

The Boss Micro Br is cool as well. So is the BR600. You find quite a few BR600's going second hand because it takes some getting into. The flexibility is awesome.

The Tascam looks like a real bargain and it's a very simple unit , judging by all the reveiws etc.
The price they Ray investigated is quite a bargain.

The Boss Micro BR is also a good unit but a about R900 more than the tascam.

If you wanted to go a bit cheaper and have a Computer

The behringer UCA202 is an audio interface that plugs in via the usb port and ships with lots of recording software (Audacity etc)
The software seems like rocket science at first but in a couple of clicks here and there you will have made a reasonable recording. ?

+1 to this. I have one and it's super simple and great for capturing ideas!

The difference between this and the Boss units is the boss units have built in effects, drum/rhythm patterns and are geared towards guitar a little more I think.

The Tascam is a great unit, but doesn't have anything fancy, it's just a recorder!

Gumtree... I sold one recently on behalf of a friend. It went for R2600... with a power supply. They are awesome and have heaps of cool features.

Quality on the tascam is amazing. I was really impressed! I think you're looking at the same thing really. Minus the effects!

Very cool then. Look the little drum machine on the micro is a bonus, but I would rather just record tracks onto it, then transfer to PC where I use soundbooth in any case.

Then it seems easier to just get a small interface. Even just a guitar snake or whatever it's called where it changes guitar 1/4" straight into USB. You can record on computer and edit on computer. I see the micro has having the effects, rhythm and being so small as a huge bonus. It's tiny. You can take it anywhere and jam on it. The tascam is a bit bigger and is not as portable. However, as a 4 track desk recorder, it's cool!

Thing is im getting lag playing direct into my PC and I have a monster sound card (although its not made for this, more gaming)

Razer Barracude AC-1.

Ill look at one of those Tascam's instead.
