The ones done by Axeshredder or Avalon are generally the best if you take any Satch / Vai backtracks, but there is still PLENTY stuff missing (specifically standard rhythym patterns) which leaves the tracks rather.....dull ☹

FYI get ya Vai backing tracks while you can 🙂 seems Mr. Vai's lawyers have taken issue with the site. Was gonna have a rant bout it but it appears there's a rumour he's gonna be re-releasing his back catalog sans lead guitar...

Yeah...Steve doesn't miss a beat it seems. He is releasing his albums as NAKED VAMPS (what he calls entire backing minus lead guitar). Very very cool if you want to play his music without the benefit of having guys in your band like he has (most likely I'd say). He is however an arrogant prick and should learn that sharing is caring 8)

Yeah is a tough on morally speaking suppose he has the legal right but ja guess i'm just idealistic but i'd think he'd be less anal bout his fans wanting to play like Steve... Truth is the real fans gonna go buy the backing tracks the guy sitting on the fence is gonna get very annoyed and possibly disenchanted with Mr. Vai.

Just don't think it's clever despite it being legal.

At the end of the day, the very fact that he's releasing his tunes without lead guitar shows that he wants his fans to be able to play along. That is a huge step forward and could result in other bands (or at LEAST other virtuosos) doing the same thing. Which will help wannabes (all the rest of us) to enjoy playing along a lot more while getting warm mushy feelings that we're supporting the dudes.

Keep in mind that guitar virtuosos don't make a lot of money. Vai is probably the BIGGEST exception because he has some business sense and he uses that to make himself a lot more money AND to make other cool musos more money. If it wasn't for him and his record label, Andy Timmons and some other great musos might never have seen the light of day!

CONGRATULATE the man for finding more ways that us guitarists can make money off of our work. What he's done is open up the market for more people like him. That's immense. We can bitch and moan or we can figure out how it benefits us.

And, bottom-line, people will still download his tracks from all over the place. The difference is that now the tracks will be perfect.
