I have a 94 American Vintage 62 reissue stratocaster that came only in a gig bag from the seller. The 62 reissue strat is marvelous, it has that 60's type warm plummy sound quite different from the current American standard strat which is colder, brighter and in my opinion more generic sounding (I have a 2008 American Standard as well so that is my reference).

Regarding the case call Ronnie at AllBang and Strummit +27 11 782 4852 or +27 82 413 1486, he sourced me a tweed Fender Vintage style case (used but in perfect nick for a great price a lot less than the Fender SA price) for my strat and its identical to that in your picture.

Are you sure that is the shipping cost. The Fender 62 case is 44"x7"x17" and 25lbs and USPS is the lowest at $470 as per their website calculation. Looked at Elderleys for an example and they quote the same for a Strat.

Please let me know how you do this as I would love to bring the case as well.

Well the guitar shipped on Friday. I emailed the guy to find out if there were any additional costs for the insurance I requested, but still have to hear back. Unfortunately I don't know how he did it, I will have to check the invoice when it gets here. He said 2-4 weeks.
I remember having a Les Paul shipped via the Japanese postal service, it was really cheap, I think around $100 and only took a little over a week.
Fedex is really expensive though. My speakers are coming via Fedex. My 335 came via fedex I think it was $250-300. You guys have been quoted inflated costs, I'd think twice if I had to pay that much for shipping.

One of the suppliers on Gbase told me that he has been selling globally for a long time and that he has always used Bax Global for delivery outside the States without ever haviing a problem.
He said they were way cheaper than anyone else.
He has sent me a guitar and amp & I m waiting to receive...

I think they have just merged with another company so I am not sure if the cost story will remain.

I am still convinced that this is the best/cheapest way to get quality in SA. Thats not a rule though.

it cost me just over a $100 to get a Gibson electric in its hardcase with USPS this year
they deliver to your house, it takes a few days than they say but thats just the RSA side of things

shop around, dont see why it would cost you more

$500 is what I've been quoted.

The seller is offering to ship the neck and body well wrapped in bubble wrap in a box and cover all shipping costs and Paypal fees for $1200 which seems like a great deal for the above mint condition 2010 '62 reissue Strat. Of course this is without the case.

What do you guys think?

That 62 reissue looks absolutely beautiful!!! I have an 84-87 (not sure of the exact year as the serial depicts that range) 62 reissue jap strat in seafoam green (but with texas specials pups) and I absolutely love it!!!

Why R15k Brent. At exchange rate it works out to about R9k and then there's vat. Am I missing something?

I misread, I thought the guitar was $1200 and the shipping was $500!
