Great songs to learn?

I'm in the process of adding more songs to my songbook. I'm looking for kind of songs that progress my learning or are just great to play. I'm open to any kind of music, the more variety in my book the better. (I am not a singer, so I like to play melodic songs as well as rythmic.)

I would like suggestions for songs if you have the time and will appreciate any imput. Right now I am limited to a steel string acoustic but I'll make a list of songs in this post for future reference.

Simple:

Intermediate:

Difficult:

I am not a guitar teacher so just bare with me. I think it's important for any person starting out that he/she gets the strumming right. That takes some practice. So, start out with simple songs..the 3 chord ones (there are zillions of these folk-type songs) and make sure that you master the strumming....not just down strokes, but up and down (actually down and up) at different tempos. As they say..it's all in the wrist ? Good luck and let us know how you are progressing.

I should have mensioned that I am not just starting out and should have picked a better forum name, haha. I've been playing for some time and if I can't manage a song now, through patients and practise I'll be able to play it. I'll consider myself a novice until I can play on level ground with my guitar heros.

OK...then you may want to add Girl from Ipanema and Take 5 to your list ?....both of which are melodic and rhythmic... Youtube it if you don't know them already....good luck.

Also, take a look at that Lighter Shade of Pale that Squonk posted a while back, which he did at his daughter's wedding. Very nice.

You know what? You should check out this month's Guitar Techniques. There is a feature on Django Reinhardt, with some really great, groovy gypsy jazz for acoustic. It's awesome stuff, lots of fun to try.

Everybody has a Pink Floyd song in their repertoire, but some of there stuff is just too complicated for me to play,
or else it's so common everyone else has done it before... :-\

I have very simple little ditty that's easy to play and sing, and has a meaning too... ?

Yes, it's a monthly mag published in the UK, but available locally in guitar shops (haven't seen it anywhere else).

A simple song if you strum the chords but try Martin Tallstrom fingerpicked version, I think there is even free Tab and a youtube video on his website
