Headphones

Hey chaps,

I have a bass and dont have an amp just yet.

Can I just pop headphones into the guitar and play like that or would I need a headphone amp?

What are my options?

The guitar does not have enough power to drive the headphones, but it won't break anything either. The cheapest way that you will still use after buying an amp, is the headphone amp. These are usually battery powered, stick into the guit like a lead and have a small diameter jack socket for the phones. You get them from about R350. I would not know if there are specific bass ones, but if you buy one for acoustic guitar or clean electric it will do the work fine. Just do not go for 'rock' type things because those are not so suitable for bass. Your music store should sort you out, try before you buy. The headphone amps are much easier to try out than full blown stacks since no one will hear you play ?

talking about the amplug - a bit more than 350 I think closer to 800 + the headphones but have heard good things about them just you can start looking at 2nd hand amps then but I'm not sure about bass though.

I have the Amplug AC30 as well and seem to remember I paid considerably less than 800. Was it R420?
There was a cheaper thing as well, not much Tone though.

Isnt R800 getting VERY close to a little practice amp's price?

A little practice amp does not go into your guitar case, it does not allow you to have good drive without being heard by anyone and not so many have an input for backtracks...
