My new fender strat

Hi

I found a strat on saturday and thought i'd share 8)

Its a fender American Deluxe Strat Ash, i found her secondhand but in basicly brand new condition and worked out less than an american standard with discount would have cost me. As far as i know, its a 2 piece ash body which has wonderfull tone. There's two mods to the guitar as far as i can see, its got white saddles that look like Graphtec's ( allan could you advise plz ) as well as fender SCN pickups ( i dont think are standard either, because their fairly hot ).

Bob, its a two tone tobacco sunburst.

infernox, hot pickups refer to high output, Neck 6.5k, Middle 6.5k and bridge 11.6k as far as i know.

Pickups differ in terms of how they sound. You get pickups that go for a very clean, twangy "vintage" sound, pickups that sound "fatter" and "smoother" (more mids, less pronounced "quack" and attack) and pickups that sound "hot" or "punchy". The other dudes here can explain why a lot better, but there is a ton of stuff that goes into pickup construction: magnet types and materials, number of windings etc.

Listen to Apache by Hank Marvin, or Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits for the traditional clean Strat twang. Then immediately try Texas Flood by SRV or Voodoo Child (Slight Return) by Hendrix for an idea of what hotter pickups might sound like. You can also check out Malmsteen's stuff, or Sails of Charon by Uli Jon Roth, for more modern takes on strat stuff. Obviously the pickups are not nearly the only differences, since the amplification, effects, guitar itself etc. all play important roles, but it's a start. Sure the other guys can give better examples.

singemonkey, im not sure, i think its a deluxe thing maybe. The std's dont look the same.

I have to stop looking at these damn Fender NGDs, those things are slowly growing on me. What are you people doing to my mind.

This is a particularly delicious specimen, congrats. Love that bridge, makes a big difference in looks IMO.

PS - HEY what's wrong with a multicolour JEM?!!! ?

The "Fender Stratocaster" logos are the same, with "Made in USA" underneath, except some have the "Original Contour Body" to the right. My '94 Standard is exactly like Francis', but my two '09s Standards have the extra wording.......otherwise identical typeface etc.

Is that what you were referring to?

I was a bit surprised that ALL new MIA Strats (including the artist models) come with a single string tree, whereas my '94 came with two!!! Go figure!

It's just a matter of time BMU, and you will surely succumb to the magic of the big F........like all other great guitarists who have gone before.........should I name a few.........?? Of course not, you know them all!!.... hahahahahaha........ ?

Aubs - I suspect you're right. One of these days I'll have to find out what the fuss is about, if only out of curiosity.

It's difficult to argue with a man who owns a JEM7VWH. I can't make the standard claim of "you just don't know how smooth a high-end Ibanez plays" HAHAHA!

Decent fenders are great, but go for a cheap and nasty job and you will get exactly that ... ?

Aubs, must i bring my ibanez with so you can judge it compared with your signature models? ?
