Guitar Pro Knowhow needed

Got my hands on Guitar Pro 5 and have no idea how to use it. Please assist.

GREAT GREAT Program, I live by it. Although infernox you know GP6 is out now? Im actually considering buying it. R450 or so

What questions do you have specifically with regards to GP5. Im pretty good with the program

guitar pro is awesome ...60 US for the new version

if you just got the s/w download tabs an run em thru the software ...can slow it down as well to make it easier to start off with an build up speed etc

where u getting stuck?

Im on ultimateguitar.com and getting tabs but how do I insert them onto the program... I tried the "search the web" thing but all my songs were removed due to copyright...

After that Im stuck as can be. Must I import note for note?

Ok, suspicious, well this is my way, lets give it a go:

go to: http://www.911tabs.com/

° In the search bar, type the name of the band (or the song if you change the option to the right)
°For demonstration purposes type in Billy Talent
°Click on the name "Billy Talent" it will be in bright gold/yellow
°You have an entire alphabetical order of the songs, now lets choose "Devil in a midnight mass tab"
*if you look to the right hand side of the page it will say either; guitar tab, bass tab, guitarpro tab etc. etc. so obviously you will want the latter.

°click on the guitarpro tab version of the song, it should be #7
°You then get directed to Ultimate guitar site, but there is a download button on the lower right hand side.
°Download song and Save to computer
°Once complete just open it up like you would with any file.. easy peasy

There are normal guitar tabs and guitarpro guitar tabs..

So, you godda download the guitarpro tabs and then just open them.

One thing to remember is that tabs are pretty much always fan-made transcriptions of the music. Especially any free ones you find on the net.

In other words, some person just like you or me, decided to do the rest of us a favour and tab the music.

The main hassle here is accuracy. Some tabs are really excellent, detailed and quite accurate. Others are awful. You'll often find tabs that are different from each other, so use the ratings on the web site and try to pick one that has a high rating with lots of votes. Same goes for GuitarPro files.

Playing the GuitarPro file solves the inherent big issue with tab notation: no rhythm information. Plus, a lot of people are nice enough to transcribe other instruments in the song too, which means you have a basic backing track to play along to.

Short answer: use your ears. If you're playing a tab or a GuitarPro tab and it doesn't sound right, it probably isn't. Use it as a guide.

Warren, the blood to bleed tab I downloaded does not play sound when I press play thats why I was asking. Is this normal?

Check your Audio Settings off the Options menu. You need a defined midi device in Ports, even if it is say Microsoft Wavetable Syth if you're using standard Midi playback. If you're using the RSE check your Audio Output settings.

Guys what would the benefit be of upgrading to version 6... not really much I can see being improved.

My connection is a bit crap for some reason so I cant really download a demo... (download dies after 1 min... as if my connection drops)

Depending on what you want to accomplish with it you may want to upgrade. IMO it's not worth it though. They've made it a bit harder to work with, and by harder I mean it takes longer to get things done. Tabbing drums in V6 is also a major schlep compared with V5. I've also found that tabs I've done with V5 need to be re-tabbed/tweaked in order to work the way they are supposed to, mostly related to repeats of bars and alternate endings.

Either way v5 or v6, GP is still an awesome application. Don't know what I would have done without it. It has helped me write my own songs despite me not having much musical knowledge, I feel I've done ok in the end ?
