I know I'm supposed to be the purveyor of all things acoustic, but Clatpon in his Cream days was a large part of the reason that I fell in love with rock music in particular and music in general. And I lurrrrrv his playing on this one. Great tone, great attitude.

Yeah. He wasn't taking any prisoners.

I like this track because it sounds like he's playing with real abandon, flying by the seat of his pants. Also there's the way that it's really two solos. He plays one, builds it up, concludes and then starts all over again.

We just included to Cream covers in our song list "Spoonfull" and "Crossroads" It is just amazing how that flying by the seat of his pants vibe has pulled our band together everybody is focused, liberated and really enjoying playing them. Love to add more Cream but then we would turn into a tribute band. The Clapton of the Cream is still one of the gods I believe in.

Hey Rene.......you have to then add "Strange Brew"......was the first Cream tune I ever played, and has remained my favourite Cream song ever!

As Rene knows, "Clatpon" at this time is a huge favourite of mine. That's just a brilliant track. I must go out and get this live Cream.

Here is Clapton, late 60s, with the famous SG which was thought to be key to that tone

Yeah. I was trying to decide whether that was the SG or the Les Paul. He played a range of Gibsons in Cream - Les Paul Standards, Les Paul Customs, The SG, a Firebird, and his old ES335.

I've seen a couple of clips that seem to suggest to me that the SG didn't sound so very great. And the 335 removed some of the definition from his super-precise style. I still feel that he never sounded better than when he was playing a Les Paul Standard.
