Jimi Hendrix
Johnny Winter
Richie Blackmore
Lighnin' Hopkins
Jan Ackerman
Carlos Santana
Rene Avenant (I was his cousin and guitar teacher from age 11 - 18)

Cool! First saw John play when Sweatband had the legendary Stellenbosch pub run whilst I was at varsity in late 80s. Really made me want to learn to play!! Fortunate enough in later years to get to know him when we gigged at the same pub, and got up on stage with him from time to time (NOT with a guitar in my hand, but a microphone!!). What an absolute genius legend that was not hailed in his own land and time. I was astonished when he told me his favourite artist was a non-guitar player - Bob Marley, no less!! Really miss him.
