NGD: Champagne Cort G254

Another guitar I picked up yesterday to be used for alternate tunings. This time a Cort G254. I love the colour and playability of this one. Amazing value for money imo. Wilkinson bridge and Mighty Mite Pups. 2003 model with almost zero fretwear! Must be honest that the shape has inspired me to look at an Ibanez JS at some stage. Love the body shape. Still need to do a mini service and setup...

I play in 6 alternate tunings so far and my main guitars all have floyd roses which makes alternate tunings a nightmare to do on the go. That's why the NGD's are all basically fixed bridges. The last two guitars I acquired (Corts) will each only be used for 1 song, so I just couldn't get myself to buy more expensive guitars for the job. Must be honest, the two Corts I picked up really impress me and I catch myself shaking my head when I play them and think about how inexpensive they were... ? I just might slam some high end pups in them at some stage...

I'm a G-series fanboy, although I prefer the ash bodied G260 and the limited edition G-VT I used for a few years. ? Generally very comfortable, small bodied and light weight.

Those older Korean ones are nice. They improved the pickups a little in later models (although the early ones aren't bad), but yours has the real Wilkinson VS100 Trem (later ones had the Korean-made cast metal VS50). Later ones also had less of an offset to the body and no tapering.

Nice necks - slender (but no Wizard, thank heavens - about 20mm IIRC), a very soft V back profile and 12" board. I also like the small dots, which are understated and classy.

The G254 reminds me alot of the Ibanez JS with its Strat type neck and headstock. It has a great body shape. Very happy with it thus far... ?

Alternate tunings and hardtail? Spend your money otherwise. Instead of having four guitars with half-decent pups, have one with great pups and a Hipshot Trilogy bridge. No need for a tremolo in most stuff anyway.

My 4 main guitars' pups cannot be improved on imo. Only the tone can be changed with similar quality pups with different voicing... My two recently acquired Corts will only be used for 1 song each. I don't like the idea of tuning and retuning and detuning my expensive guitars all the time... Especially 'cause the 3 Ibby's have floyd roses and only the ESP is a hardtail. Its a schlep also... I'f I end up using the Corts regularly, I'll probably upgrade their pups to the same standard as my other guitars, or at least the specific pup(s) I use in each.
