Hi guys,
I've got a little Laney VC 15 and it's giving me a hard time! (I really need help!!)
I've had it in for repairs a while back, with the "problem" being badly soldered/ dry joints. After repairs things went well for a while, but now things are turning pear shaped again... and much worse this time!
Brief explanation of what happens:
1. switch on amp. it doesn't have standby so it's a simple ON.
2. it starts making this discharge type noise. noise goes away after a coupe of seconds.
3. on the CLEAN channel I'm left with... NOTHING. no sound coming through. when volume is at max I hear this terrible cracky noise.
4. on the DRIVE channel I must turn both gain and volume full in order to hear something. still a very muddy, crappy sound.
Could this possibly be the tubes that are packing up?
Anyone who's got advice please?!

It's impossible to tell what is wrong without opening the amp and checking it out. I would advise you to take it to an amp tech. Your profile does not state where you are based, so I can't suggest anyone for you.

The fellow is in Pretoria...
I dont think spending more money on an amp that has already been in twice for repairs is the solution here... (what else can be done?)
Paying an amp tech to fix it again... for the same problem to happen again down the line?
Something else is wrong here...

If it's affecting both channels, then it's in the shared part of the preamp or the power section. Could be the channel switch - jiggle and see... Could also be the effects send - plug a lead from the send to the return and see if the problem disappears.
Valves are easy to check - swap em out for others (Brent has the spares I gave him with my Vox, which would be fine for testing). Could Be PI valve (the last 12AX7 before the power valves) or the EL84s. Either way, if it is the valves change all three (PI and power valves should always be changed as a set).

I checked the effects send - still persisting!
Will, with check the valves as soon as possible (Brent, some help here please man!) ?
Otherwise I was thinking to completely strip the amp of all electronics & speaker and turning it into a neat 6-bottle wine holder, sell my electric gear and purchase wine with the amount I get... ?
