GFSA Competitions. The composing/voting cycle

Currently we have a week to prepare and post an entry for a GFSA competition, and then a week is allowed for voting.

IMO this is not a good division - though there may be overriding practical considerations that force the current cycle.

Would it not be preferable to maintain a total two week cycle per competition but to have 10 days for preparing the entry and 4 days for voting?

Yes. But I must say the votes seemed to come in right to the end hey. My boy was way ahead and next thing he wasnt so I lost quite a bit of money on this one. Could have been prevented with a shorter pollin period. But yes, what the heck. A week for the vote is long and a little extra time to put together and get onto the micro br and then onto the laptop and submitted would be good.

I would even go as far as 3 days for voting, that's all you need.

Another interesting idea would be a challenge ideas thread, where people can list ideas for future challenges and provide inspiration for those who win and need a topic.

But part of the challenge is for the winner to come up with ideas for the next one - that too stretches you.

Not sure about this. Having to choose a topic is also a manifestation of creativity. If you get a good chunk of votes early on then start thinking about the duty that comes with winning! ?

There's nothing, that I can see, that prevents somebody soliciting ideas.

I sometimes take part in an image challenge on another site. They have an image challenge suggestion thread and there are tone of suggestions.
People also vote on the suggestions and the most popular ideas come forward more often, making the challenge more rewarding and, well, challenging.

Plus, the more popular the idea, the more entries you are likely to get.

B3ta are an interesting bunch of foul mouthed, even fouler imagination artistic types. Definitely NSFW and will get you a bit of a rep around the office if you are caught spending time there (as will Sickipedia ?).

I knew that's who you were talking about - I stop in for a quick look once every couple of weeks or so to see the latest challenge winners.

Some are very funny. Most are crude and offensive but the funny ones are so good that I keep going back.

I'm also in favour of loading the cycle towards the composing and execution side. Three days seem sufficient for voting.

One of the problems with shortening the voting period is that some folks only have access to GFSA at home and some only at work so you need to include the weekend and at least two work days a 10 /4 cycle could work if challenge is set on Monday noon deadline is Wednesday week evening. Voting starts Thursday morning and ends Sunday evening

Valid point. Your suggestion seems the best compromise IMHO.
