Just got an old ibanez ex350 for R800 Bucks

Hi,

Just got an old ibanez ex350 off of gumtree. Not in bad condition. I figured its some new shoes or the guitar. I chose the guitar.

I've already started stripping the thing down. Getting it up to scratch will be fun. A bit of spit and polish and itll be all shiny and new again.

I've decided to get into electric after learning with an acoustic. I know this isnt the best guitar, but figured i'll mess about for awhile with this on the side and then upgrade to something grand and expensive.

Just one noob question: What stings would you recommend i get for it?

I know nothing about electric, good time to learn.

That's quite a good price for what you bought.

For a double locking trem I usually recommend a .009 or .010 gauge. If you're coming from acoustic, the .010 gauge is the better (you'd) bet.

Brand? Hard to go wrong with Ernie Ball or D'Addario, but your choice ultimately.

Just be aware that unless you use exactly the same strings as the guitar has on it, you'll need to do some setup for the new strings (Floyd Rose bridges are funny that way).

Another quick question, as the body is slightly scratched up, and i have it fully in pieces, would it be fine to spray it another colour. I've heard of guys taking the paint off and going back to wood. Any problems with this.

Now to decide on a paint scheme?

It's possible, but refinishing so you get something remotely better than the scratched paint job you have now is more tricky than you think.

I must say, this guitar hotroding is fun, im busy spraying it today.

If it comes out nice ill post some pics. If it doesn;t i wont. lol

SInce its my first one, im doing it "alcheapo grande".

LOL! Couldn't wait, eh?

Oh well, I was the same with my first cheapie - dived right in and refinished it. By the 5th time I redid it, I was getting the hang of it, but the body was too thin after repeated sanding, so the pickup and trem cavities went right through the body. :-[
