I tried following Singemonkey's tutorial. I found it very hard to find a location where there was NO reflection on the guitars. But anyways...

Here they all are.

Left to right: Smoothtalker SSC2, Morgan OMR, Larrivee LV05

The tops are all spruce (Engelman for the Smoothtalker, Sitka for the other two), but they all have different wood used for back and sides

Indian rosewood on the Morgan

Mahogany for the Larrivee. I'm told it's Honduras mahogany.

And good old local kiaat for the Smoothtalker

The Morgan and the Larry have mahogany necks and ebony fingerboards. The Smoothtalker has a kiaat neck and leadwood fingerboard.

Hmmm... reflections causing hassles with the shots of the Larry and Morgan backs. The Smoothtalker has a very different finish and is immune to such problems.

Hey Bob, those pics are very good.........

........it's not easy to shoot (photograph) shiny objects, especially if you don't have access to a "controlled" environment,
eg. studio with lights and reflectors. And finding a location outdoors is almost impossible, but shaded areas are better.

You can however control reflections outdoors, but it takes a bit of "work", or you can "play" around with Photoshop or equivalent. The idea is never to shoot straight on, turn the axes slightly one way or the other, and see what angle gets the least amount of reflection. Even the Smooth-talker will photograph much nicer. It's also better shooting them individually, you can control the reflections much easier.

Lying the guits down on the grass poses another problem, reflection from the sky......bad news. It's much better to stand them up, use a darkish board as a reflector, and then shoot them from different angles, using the board to block out reflections. You will get the right one. Hope this helps and makes sense......

I did want the family shot, but it would have been easier to do them individually. There was a small spot in which I could get one guitar with minimal reflections. With three I had no chance. Anyhoo... some helpful tips from Aja, so next long weekend I can have another go and see if I get better shots.

For some reason I was under the impression that you would have 100000000 (x10) guitars?

PS: For interest sakes, how much would a smoothtalker like that cost?

i know i keep saying this Bob.......... but it's more for others ears than yours........ but that particular Morgan you own ( and note i 'm not saying ALL morgans........just this one) is prob the best sounding steel string acoutic i have heard both acoustically and that recent recording you played me.......... must let me say it's recording beautifully too ......... but thanks to LR baggs too i guess , so yeah no wonder there's a waiting list of people wanting this guitar if you ever have a moment of madness and sell................. this Morgan makes most other top end/upper end guitars sound quite ordinary when compared, this one is a keeper .......

The only case where I have made solemn oaths to give specific people priority on a gutar is the Morgan. Anything else, should I decide to sell (and today I am not making that decision) is first come first served.

The Larry.... yeah, I got that at a good price and my intent really was to sell it on. However I took it home and then, like a fool, I played it.
