I'm pretty sure it is something in my guitar but what? I say I'm pretty sure it's the guitar since it hasn't happened with any of my others, that i can remember, playing through the same gear and i have tried different cables so unless both cables just so happen to be broken and it's just coincidence that it happens when I'm using the guitar in question (Ibanez btw, that post about quality might be true it seems ☹) I'm sure it's the guitar ?

It sounds like a super super bad tremolo/signal dropping in and out.

I've opened it up to check wiring and everything looks 100% but I have no experience with wiring so i was just going by if i could see anything blatantly wrong.

I'm hoping it's not :\ I really can't think of any time though that I've had the issue with any other guitar besides my Ibanez. Will see what the pro's say.

Edit: O btw, not sure if it came across in my post but it isn't a constant issue. It comes and goes. Like it will randomly do that wobbly sound, "pop" back into place and everything will be good again for a while. Also, it isn't always as extreme as in the clip. Sometimes it's like a massive drop in gain, I guess you could describe it as going from a metal distortion to a light bluesy distortion.

One approach is good old-fashioned process of elimination. Start off with your current noisy chain. Then change things, but change them one at a time. Try another guitar. Is there still weirdness? If so then it's not the guitar, if it's gone then you have identified the process. If it's not the guitar then try using a different lead. Then by-pass the FX pedals one at a time.

Change one thing at a time and when the problem disappears you have found the faulty link in the chain.

Ja, i've already basically gone through the process. That's why i say i'm pretty sure it's the guitar unless there is a mad coincidence. I'm just not sure what in the guitar is causing this.

I think i found the issue. Could it really be as simple as bad batteries? I had a looong period of the thumping sound last night, replaced the batteries and it stopped, coincidence?

In all likelihood, no coincidence. The battery not providing enough power to drive the onboard preamp would explain the distorted sounds.

We would have been able to tell you a lot sooner if you had posted the type of Ibanez you have. One google and we could have picked up on the battery requirement, and put one and one together. Moral of the story: everyone please post enough info, even if you are not sure it is relevant.

Ja, i realized when i came back to the post not mentioning that my PU's were active probably slowed the process significantly. I'm sure someone would have said "batteries?" somewhere along the way.
