Getting an 8-Bit Sound

Been trying to find a way to get an 8-bit sound(like you'd find from an arcade back in the 80's) from my guitar. Only way good ol' Google says its possible is with special pedals.
Anyone have any cheaper solutions? ?

Yes, it is possible, you just need to bias an opamp accordingly to get it to gate, I've built this feature into my Fuzzsilla fuzz pedal, a couple other commercial pedals do this as well including the Zvex Fuzz Factory, or you can build one yourself, here is wacky fuzz called the uglyface.

I've been using Amplitube Fender a fair bit. The Fender Blender pedal they have modelled in that could get you in the ballpark. Crazy pedal.

Another, quick, easy way to do this to most drive/distortion pedals is to just sag the incoming 9V, the lower voltages will cause the pedals to gate/glitch and a device like this can be used on any number of pedals.... been thinking about making something like this with a cool little analog DC meter and a feedback looper... hmm...

My blue box does glitchy, so does the mi audio pollyanna, and other synth/fuzz/ ringmod pedals..............
Really the best way to get that sound is via pedals........ Probably the new fuzzilla, cuz then you have more than one sound..... and not just glitch

And use notes high on the neck....they just work better IMO

Ha. My buddy used to do this awesome '60s computer terminal sound - the kind of thing Kirk would find if he broke into the alien command centre and found to his astonishment they were actually controlled by an "random computer" - flashing lights and blipping noises.

Really brilliant but I have no idea how he did it. Not quite the same as the eight bit sound we're talking about though.

That thing definetly is ugly. How goes the Fuzzsilla production btw? Thanks for the recommendations guys some interesting ideas.
