PeteM Here's a weird thing. Our band, which is essentially a rock, blues, light jazz sort of band, has been invited to play at the "Friends of Music Club" here in Durban. This club meets every so often to listen to a bunch of invited classical musos doing their thing - solos, duos, quartets and the like. The members seem to be the who's who of Durban classical music set. Why they have asked us to open their evening's entertainment this Tuesday evening beats me. Maybe the organiser, who heard us recently at a gig, wants to add a bit if shock treatment. Oh well, I'll try anything once. BTW we open with Django Jive, a number which I wrote for one of the GFSA challenges, and has now become our band's signature tune. I extended the 1min number into an arrangement that now includes a keyboard solo and a kinda bebop vocal thingy.
vic Congrats Pete....maybe the organiser is thinking to widen the horizons of the members by de-blinkering them ? Have you now thought about a repertoire for this special and historic occasion...?
Riaan Congrats Pete! Maybe the organiser, who heard us recently at a gig, wants to add a bit if shock treatment. Well don't disappoint him then! ?
PeteM The organiser is a she and she's 82 years old. We're doing 6 numbers, which she chose - Django Jive, Singing the Blues, Hey Hey, Georgia, The Way We Were and Key To The Highway, which she chose from our book.
PeteM Squonk wrote good stuff Pete ? Retirement is good for you, you seem to be so busy ? I'd like to be more busy particularly with better paying gigs, although this gig has a healthy fee. ?
