Hello all
So being very very excited about my new Z2, I only played a little on Thursday evening once I got home and then took it out again today to show a friend. its only today that I noticed that the guitar has a scratch and peeling (more about that in a sec) on the head.
Now it seems as if the finish is cracked on the headstock and I can essentially snap off the finish should I fiddle with it. About 1x1 cm.
Can I take this back even though it was bought on sale? as I dont believe sale means "foetstoots" Still happy though, just peeved with the git having this since I was so excited to get it, finally.
Ray
Show them. I think they should be pretty good about it. Doesnt look like you whacked it against something does it?
infernox
No, its under the strings on the head. Ive never even removed a guitar's strings.
This guitar has only been handled with the utmost care. I dont mind them sending it back for a replacement but damn... im so dissapointed that the one guitar I really wanted now has a flaw.
IceCreamMan
if the guitar was on sale because of the flaw the shop is under the obligation of pointing it out to you before you buy even if it was "voetstoets"
infernox
Thank you
Ill go to them tomorrow or Monday (depending on shop hours) and explain to them

Don't take no for an answer. Walk in there with confidence!
Decide beforehand what you want them to do in order resolve the issue - replacement or repair? They will probably offer to repair, I would say no.

Got some news.
Phoned this morning explaining the problem.
Went in with Guitar and was told "thats not good"
Asked if they had another, not stock.
Ordering another one on Tuesday and once thats in I can just go and swap.
Hopefully they dont have the Z2 anymore and I get upgraded to a Z4... heres for wishfull thinking.
Great service once again by Marshall Music Woodmead. Really well done.
Didnt ask about setup though.
IceCreamMan
excellent an big up to marshall

Due to some rubbing in the gig bag, the 1x1 cm piece of the finish has come off.
On a lighter note, Marshall Music just called and have already alerted Cort to the problem and requested the serial number. I didnt think they would phone this soon. BIG UP!

glad to hear you getting the service you wanted....... and i deal with marshall music a lot and never in 2 yrs i been in jhb had any problem with them and i buy quite a lot and so do most of my students .......... and they usually say if theres a prob just bring it back.....and never hassle........
lets be honest Marshall music is a big company and i'm sure they expect returns and they in turn just return them to the factory/supplier ....... so they not losing and hopefully neither will you ......... anyway all new gear always comes with a guarentee that will cover most things except "user damage" ,thats the one benefit from buying new....... over 2nd hand.........
good luck with new guitar
infernox
keira, im already playing better with it... ?)

Was kind of expecting this...
Phoned today
"They dont have stock, but will fix it at their cost." <- Cort Importers
Now...
•fix at their cost... its new I would bloody imagine so...
•Its new... replace or find a alternative...
So I phoned back and said I dont want Marshall Music to find a alternative, but the Cort importer. I just bought the bloody guitar and now I have to send it in for hell knows how long as they cant just refinish the head... No, look why dont you upgrade to a Z4 for X amount of money... rather just... new guitar, send it to us.
Im slightly pissed at Cort.

To be fair, that is a risk you run in buying a discontinued model. If they don't have stock and can't get more how can either Marshall or MD (the importers) replace it? In that case their offer of repair is the best thing they can offer you.
If you are really unhappy with the situation, ask Marshall about the possibility of upgrade to the next model at a good discount instead . You are entitled to that or your money back in the situation, but bear in mind that they are not obligated to give you as high a discount as you got with the Z2 (they may not be able to). Either way, I'm sure that if you approach them they will work out something acceptable to both of you.
infernox
Alan, I have spoken to Marshall and am very happy with their service.
When I started looking at the guitar about a month ago and up till I bought it I never knew it was discontinued, I dont even know for sure now. What Im saying is that instead of telling me, 'hey send your NEW guitar to us for repairs..." just say, 'Marshall Music, phone your client and offer him/her a upgrade for x amount as we will drop the price to assist you'
I dont think im being unreasonable.

Well, it's probably cheaper for them to offer a better discount on a Z4 than to get the Z2 fixed (and you can never properly "fix" a poly finish anyway - you replace it and make sure the lines between old and new are in unobtrusive places).
But from experience I can tell you that most people won't take kindly to being told they have to pay in more money - even if it means they end up with a better guitar at a much lower price than usual. Most think they should be automatically upgraded at no extra cost - which may work out sometimes, but not always. So default is to replace with one of the same model and if one is not available offer repair or refund.
Do yourself a favour and always, always research anything you want to buy. Check manufacturer's specs, search for reviews and forum posts mentioning it. Sometimes it gives you bargaining power - like if you know if it's a discontinued model or an older version. Sometimes it helps you in identifying an older model with better features than the newer versions at the same price (which is common with Cort). Sometimes it can even help you identify something that's been misidentified as one model but is actually another - possibly more valuable model (I once kicked myself for pointing out that a Musicman Stingray 5-string Bass was marked and priced as a 4-string).

Firstly - Thanks for the post & the updates. I am sure all those who read remember the the manufacturer name and note the dealers handling of the issue. From what I see - good on Marshall. Bad on Cort.
No matter what product or what shop, as far as I know there is no voetstoets (by law) especially on a new product. Sale or not - thats also irelevant. Demand quality service and bang for your buck. Let people know when you don't get it.
infernox
Alan thats partly the reason why I dont want it fixed, the finish might never be the same or it might crack again after some time.
They could even pull a Z2 from another store maybe? I dont mind that.
This Z2 was really the reason I started playing guitar 1 1/2 months ago odd, but now I beginning to think Id rather ask for a credit and loook at buying a ESP.
infernox
Ok peeps
Might tell Cort to go stick it and thus will change brands.
Compared to the Z2 would these two guitars be better with rock or worse:
ESP LTD Viper 50
ESP LTD EC50
maybe even something higher on the product tree
Please advise as Im going tomorrow.

I'm not sure how people on this forum feel about Schecter, but take a look at the Schecter Omen 6 to nice guitar for hard stuff IMO.
