When it comes to writing songs, nothing has been more convenient.
Although nothing ever can compare to the real thing, the Ampeg plug is pretty decent, But I'll never end up just using it on it's own. Most often I'll use the SVT-4Pro model and combine that with an edited DI track. [no secrets revealed ?]

Probably the most convincing amp tones in a plugin. Also it's licensed by Peavey so you don't get to use a "weavey" or some funny name that had to be used instead due of legal issues lol
Plus you can modify the amp as you wish, (changing tubes, voltages, biasing etc) pretty extensive.
