I've read through all the posts on the thread and it seems most of the players enjoy thicker picks. I do a lot of slow acoustic lead parts and ever since I've developed in this style of playing I needed more attack on the strings to bring the notes out more clearly. I was mislead into the red sharkfin thing as well, but I find any "strumming" pick(meaning bendy plectrum) to inprecise for my hand to feel the strings. I tried a lot and ended up with a very small plectrum that in the end enabled me to deliver much clearer harmonics when playing lead on my electric as well. Took some time to strum my acoustic with it, but I'm used to it now and do everything with it. The little bugger the keep me happy is the heavy/hard(black) Gibson plectrum. And it's not because it's a "name" as I suppose it gets made in China in a children factory or something and been using it long before I had a Gibby, but I love the preciseness. And it's nice and thin too. Would like to know if anyone has tried them and what they thought of it.
I tried those and quite liked them.
I agree that you can get by with strumming with the heavy jazz type picks, but I still switch to a floppy shark-fin for certain songs on the acoustic where it's just jangly open chords and no precision is required. I can't play anything else with those monstrosities though ?
