Right, so I've done the introduction, and just spent a few minutes at lunch down Marshall Music in Woodmead.
I chatted to the salesman after having a look and feel around, and I'm still a little confused about whether to get steel or nylon strings. The problem is I've never played anything, and have never paid attention to what guitars the artists or bands I enjoy play, so can't connect a song to a guitar to help with me choice..
And to top it all off, my ipod played 'Sweet Child of Mine' on the way there, which is basically guitar porn to my ears.. The more I think about it, the more songs I can think of that I'd love to be able to play on an electric guitar, and it sort of motivates me more to start playing. I think this means I've made my mind up already doesn't it?
How much do amps cost then.. And what about a pedal?
I assume that it's the famous repeating lick that you love about Sweet Child o' Mine? ? There is an acoustic rhythm guitar in there too, but somehow I don't think that's the part you're thinking of...
If Slash is the type of guitarist that floats your boat, you might well want to consider getting into electric, though some folks consider learning on acoustic to be the way to go.
Amps cost anything from a few hundred bucks to tens of thousands, or even more. It would be a good idea to look through some other threads on here, where just recently some new guys (like "Infernox") have been asking about good gear to get started with. Amps with built in effects (like delay, reverb, distortion etc.) might be a good place to start since you can get an idea of what the effects do before you start looking at separate units or pedals.
I think you should give us some other examples of the music that inspires you to want to play. It certainly doesn't sound like you'll want a nylon string guitar ?
